Abstract

When we examine the life of Abu Nawas and his poetry, we find two types of studies: private studies and general studies. Either the private studies deal with his life and texts from his poetry, and the general ones deal with Abbasid literature, its phenomena, and its poets. There is hardly a source of Abbasid literature that is devoid of referring to him and examining his poetic art. Abu Nawas moved in his poetry between absurdity, rebellion, and alienation until it became critical material for many readings according to multiple critical approaches. Despite this amount of studies and research, both ancient and modern, we noticed, through our humble reading, that they were devoid of any realism in his life and poetry, as well as the phenomenon of exaggeration, and that these studies were far from examining the systematic distortion campaigns that called for this huge amount of critical writing, not to mention the ambiguity in the critical movement. That revolved around him, and therefore this modest research came under the title (Dualism of Realism and Extremism in the Poetry of Abu Nawas), and was divided into two chapters and a conclusion:

The first chapter dealt with (the life of Abu Nawas... between challenge and rebellion), and included two sections. The first was devoted to (the life of Abu Nawas... and the systematic distortion), and the second was devoted to (Abu Nawas... between ridicule, challenge, renewal, and threat).

The second chapter dealt with (the duality of realism and exaggeration... and the blurring of the critical movement in his poetry), and it contained two sections. The first was devoted to (Abu Nawas... between realism and exaggeration), and the second section was devoted to studying (Abu Nawas... and the blurring of the critical movement in his poetry). The conclusion of the research includes references to what was mentioned in the research, as well as some results, opinions, and research. The research relied on several sources and references, the forefront of which stands the collection of Abu Nawas and its explanations, not to mention the main sources and modern studies.
