Abstract

Al-Manathira District is one of the districts of Al-Najaf Governorate, and occupies its spatial location in relation to Al-Najaf Governorate in the northeastern part. (Map-1). The research aims to calculate the spatial and temporal changes in the study area, where the analysis of satellite images from the Landsat satellite was taken for the years (2009-2021), in 2009 the area of agricultural land was about (50944) dunums, While the area of agricultural land in 2021 AD became about (44,623) dunums, and by comparing the area of agricultural land in the two periods, it becomes clear to us that the area of lost agricultural land is equal to (6321) dunums. The use of remote sensing techniques is one of the important means to extract sensitive and accurate information about The properties of any target on the surface of the earth and the emergency changes that get to that target, as well as determining the extent of agricultural land degradation in the study area caused by a group of different natural and human factors, because it leads to the environmental bankruptcy of this resource, which leads to depriving future generations of their right to this important wealth. In addition, they can inherit a degraded environment due to improper use.
