Methods of Education and Upbringin From Surah Al-An'am

Abstract

This research examines the educational and instructional methods presented in Surat Al-An‘am, aiming to highlight the Qur’anic approach to education and its role in developing the Muslim personality and strengthening moral and faith-based values. The study adopts an analytical and deductive methodology by examining the relevant Qur’anic verses and deriving their educational implications.

The first section discusses the conceptual framework of the study by defining the terms method, education, and teaching both linguistically and technically, while clarifying the relationship between these concepts and their significance in the educational process. The second section introduces Surat Al-An‘am, addressing its virtues, objectives, reasons for its name, and the most important commandments and directives contained within it.

The third section focuses on the method of wisdom and good exhortation, explaining their linguistic and technical meanings, their importance in Islamic preaching, and their impact on guiding individuals and societies toward righteousness. The study also examines the Qur’anic approach of avoiding gatherings of evil and immoral people, emphasizing the influence of the social environment on human behavior and the necessity of distancing oneself from sources of moral and intellectual corruption.

Furthermore, the research addresses several unethical behaviors condemned in Surat Al-An‘am, including mocking the messengers, taking protectors besides Allah, fabricating lies against Allah, and insulting those whom others worship besides Allah, which may lead them to insult Allah out of hostility and ignorance. The study highlights the harmful consequences of such behaviors on both individuals and society and demonstrates the educational remedies offered by the Qur’an.                                                                           

The study concludes that Surat Al-An‘am presents a comprehensive Qur’anic model of education and teaching, combining the establishment of sound faith, the development of moral values, the enhancement of intellectual awareness, and the guidance of human behavior according to a balanced divine methodology. Therefore, it serves as an important source for deriving educational and instructional methods capable of building righteous individuals and upright societies.
