The Rhetoric of Media Discourse and Its Role in Shaping Contemporary Awareness: A Study of Influence and the Construction of Cultural Perception
Keywords:
Rhetoric, Media Discourse, Contemporary.Abstract
This research examines the rhetoric of media discourse as one of the most significant mechanisms influencing the formation of contemporary consciousness and the construction of the cultural perception of individuals and societies amid the rapid transformations witnessed by both traditional and digital media. The study is based on the premise that media discourse is no longer merely a means of conveying information; rather, it has become an integrated rhetorical system that employs linguistic, argumentative, and visual strategies to reshape the audience's perception, guide their attitudes, and shape their convictions.
The research aims to identify the most prominent rhetorical mechanisms employed in media discourse to achieve persuasive influence and to clarify their role in the production of meaning, the formation of public opinion, and the construction of cultural representations. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, drawing upon the insights of modern rhetoric, discourse analysis, media studies, and cultural criticism.
The findings reveal that the effectiveness of media discourse does not depend solely on the information it conveys, but rather on the rhetorical structures through which it is constructed and the persuasive, directive, and meaning-producing strategies it employs to reproduce cultural meanings. Accordingly, rhetoric constitutes a fundamental element in understanding the functions and influence of contemporary media.
