"The Open Text in Prophetic Praise: Ibn Al-Jinan as a Model"

Abstract

This study addresses the concept of the "open text" as a text characterized by flexibility and multiplicity of interpretations, as it liberates itself from the hegemony of a single, restricted meaning. This is achieved by applying this concept to the Prophetic Panegyric (Madih Nabawi) of the Andalusian poet Ibn al-Jannan. The study aims to reveal the nature of the openness of the panegyric text through an interpretive reading that relies on the recipient's interaction with various symbols and connotations. The study asserts that this openness is closely linked to the spiritual dimension and sincere feelings towards the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The study is distributed into an introduction and two chapters. The introduction provides an overview of the Prophetic Panegyric and its origins, as well as a comprehensive biography of the poet Ibn al-Jannan and his most prominent poetic themes. The first chapter is devoted to the theoretical study of the concept of the open text and its relationship to the closed text in both classical and modern Arabic criticism. Meanwhile, the second chapter focuses on an applied study, aiming to probe the poetic text of Ibn al-Jannan in an attempt to explore how Prophetic miracles and Sufi longing transformed into open textual spaces that allow for multiple readings based on the recipient's state and cognitive background. The study concludes that the panegyrics of Ibn al-Jannan represent a unique model of a text in which subjective sentiment blends with the metaphysical dimension, making it fertile ground for continuous and renewed interpretation .
