Rhetorical and Pragmatic Structure in Arabic Proverbs: An Analytical Study

Abstract

This research was a scholarly journey into the memory of Arabic literature, exploring the realm of "Proverbs in Arabic Literature: An Analytical Study." We shed light on these concise texts to uncover the secrets of their enduring legacy, the brilliance of their construction, and their vital role in shaping the Arab mind. Far from being a mere exercise in compilation and documentation, this study sought to deconstruct the artistic and social fabric of the proverb, aiming to understand how the "widely circulated word" evolved into a form of "cultural authority." The research demonstrated that proverbs played a profound role in "engineering values"; they served as a societal tool for molding the Arab character—elevating the status of the generous and the brave while disparaging the miserly and the cowardly.
