The Prophetic Hadith represents a fundamental source for understanding the linguistic meanings of the Holy Qur'an. As an authoritative explanation of the Qur'an, it clarifies lexical meanings, rhetorical expressions, general and unrestricted statements, and thus occupies a central place in the methodology of Qur'anic exegesis, particularly linguistic interpretation.
This study examines the employment of the Prophetic Hadith in the linguistic interpretation of the Holy Qur'an through an applied analysis of Jāmiʿ al-Bayān by al-Ṭabarī and Al-Baḥr al-Muḥīṭ by Abū Ḥayyān. It explores the concept of linguistic exegesis, the methodological foundations for employing Hadith as an interpretive authority, and the principal forms of its application in explaining Qur'anic vocabulary and expressions.
The study concludes that the Prophetic Hadith played a pivotal role in shaping linguistic exegesis by providing authoritative interpretations consistent with the linguistic conventions of classical Arabic, thereby enriching exegetical methodology and enhancing the understanding of Qur'anic discourse.
