The Arabic Language and Linguistic Interference in Morocco: A Historical Study

Abstract

The research first presents the difficulties of the subject, then highlights the main general and common factors behind the Arabization, Amazighization, or hybridization of Moroccan tribes throughout history. It then turns to a number of specific cases to illustrate the key outcomes of Arabization, Amazighization, or hybridization of Moroccan tribes, whether in terms of newly adopted tribal names or patterns of living. Finally, it reviews a set of examples of Arabized Amazigh tribes, Amazighized Arab tribes, and tribes that combined both characteristics.
