The semantic duality (creation and worship) in Surah Al-Sajdah: A study in light of the Holy Qur’an

Abstract

This research explores the "Semantic Duality (Creation and Worship) in Surah As-Sajdah," investigating the semantic and linguistic links between the reality of human existence (Creation) and the ultimate purpose of that existence (Worship). The research problem lies in understanding how the Surah employs semantic structures to bridge the beginning of creation with the outcomes of the hereafter, and how it portrays a comprehensive relationship between the Creator and the created.

​               The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to trace vocabulary and terminology within its Quranic context. The research is divided into two main pillars: the first focuses on the semantic dimensions of creation, divine fashioning of man, and the role of revelation in guidance. The second analyzes the semantics of worship, manifested in prostration and submission, and their connection to resurrection and recompense. The study concludes that Surah As-Sajdah presents an integrated semantic vision that begins with gratitude for the blessing of creation and leads to voluntary submission to the Creator, emphasizing that perfect servitude is the logical consequence of the miracle of creation.
