Abstract

This research examines the folktale in the ancient Arab era by studying its origins, development, and functions. It traces its roots in the pre-Islamic Arab environment and the changes it underwent during the Islamic era. The research also identifies the circumstances that contributed to its emergence and follows its artistic and thematic development across different periods. Furthermore, it highlights its intellectual, social, educational, political, and aesthetic functions.

The research employs a descriptive methodology. It concludes that the Arab folktale was not merely a means of entertainment and amusement, but also served to transmit human experience, solidify values ​​and principles, preserve collective memory, and influence the audience. It also witnessed a clear evolution in its structure and methods under the influence of cultural, social, and intellectual transformations.
