Abstract

This study, entitled “The Geopolitical Analysis of the Impact of Climate Change on the Stability of Central and Southern Iraq,” examines climate change as one of the most significant contemporary structural challenges that extend beyond its environmental dimensions to influence political, economic, and social stability. It focuses on analyzing the implications of climate change across three main dimensions: livelihoods, food security, and the increasing manifestations of violence, along with the associated patterns of conflict and cooperation among components of society, in addition to the role of the state I managing this crisis at both the local and international levels

The study concludes that the impacts of climate change on the stability of central and southern Iraq are shaped by the interaction of social, economic, institutional, and political factors that affect both vulnerability and resilience. Accordingly, it presents a set of recommendations aimed at strengthening adaptation policies, improving water resource management, and supporting alternative livelihoods, in order to reduce future risks, enhance opportunities for cooperation, and build adaptive capacity and stability.
