Abstract

The study aims to identify the environmental impacts of solid waste in the city of Najaf Al-Ashraf, taking Al-Jadida Al-Oula district as a case study, and to determine the most important sustainable methods for its treatment by reviewing global experiences and adopting their sustainability indicators. This is done to identify the main environmental problems resulting from solid waste through comparison with the current situation in the study area, in addition to waste management standards from the moment of its generation to the methods of its final disposal. It is noted that these wastes have negative effects on the health and well-being of the district’s residents if workers and officials do not adhere to health and safety procedures and to proper waste disposal methods at the appropriate times.

The field survey revealed the existence of a real problem regarding the sustainable management and disposal of solid waste from the moment it is generated until the final disposal stage.
