Abstract

Tourism has always held a prominent position in comprehensive development, given its effective contribution to increasing income. Working to improve its efficiency is one of the essential elements in the prosperity and development of those cities. Hence the importance of studying (the geography of tourism development for secondary cities in Baghdad Governorate). Therefore, this study aims to analyze the tourism potential in the secondary cities of Baghdad Governorate, and to diagnose the location of each of them and the extent of its efficiency in meeting urban and regional development, especially revealing new potentials. This was done in the first section, with a future strategic vision for the development of tourism sites being given in the second section. The study relied on the descriptive and analytical methods, and reached a number of conclusions, the most important of which was: The geographical scope of the study is rich with a remarkable and rich collection of archaeological, historical and religious landmarks and sites with urban and regional tourism value. If they are exploited correctly through the development of infrastructure and overcoming obstacles, they can lead to real and effective

tourism development in the governorate .
