Abstract

The research aims to study the reality of the manufacturing sector in Iraq by analyzing and evaluating its performance indicators and its contribution to the national economy during the period (2003-2021). The research adopted the descriptive analytical method to explain and analyze the reality of the manufacturing sector and analyze its contribution to the gross domestic product, and the reasons that led to the decline in its levels of contribution to economic growth. The research reached several conclusions, the most important of which is that there is a decrease and decline in the efficiency of the manufacturing industries in Iraq, which led to a decline in the contribution of the manufacturing sector to the gross domestic product. This can be attributed to the problems of political, security and economic instability that Iraq went through after 1990, which led to a decrease in the productive efficiency of industrial projects and the complete or partial cessation of production of many of them, in addition to the open door policy adopted by the state after 2003. The research recommended the need to qualify and develop the industrial sector, by analyzing the problems and obstacles it faced during that period and developing appropriate solutions.
