Abstract

The novel "The Pomegranate Tree Alone" is one of the most prominent contemporary Iraqi novels that addresses the tragedy of the Iraqi people under war, sectarian violence, and occupation. The novel reveals the psychological and social devastation inflicted upon ordinary people through its protagonist, Jawad, a mortician who inherited his father's profession but dreamed of becoming an artist and sculptor, creating beauty rather than living amidst corpses and graves. Through this bleak world, the author paints a profound human portrait of the suffering of Iraqis who found themselves trapped by fear and loss.
