The Commercial Functional Region of Food Trade in Al-Nasr wa Al-Salam Subdistrict

Abstract

This study aims to define the functional commercial region of Al-Nasr and Al-Salam sub-district in the field of food wholesale trade, by applying Applebaum's cumulative percentage method and the gravity model. The survey results revealed that the commercial influence of the sub-district extends beyond its administrative boundaries to neighboring areas such as Abu Ghraib, Dora, and Al-Yusufiyah, which recorded high percentages of shoppers. The gravity values showed that commercial interaction is directly related to demand size and inversely related to distance, reflecting the spatial gradation between core, intermediate, and peripheral regions. The consistency between field data and theoretical models confirms the validity of the results and provides strong credibility in explaining the regional extension of commercial activity.
