Abstract

The research aims to diagnose the reproductive health situation in Babil Governorate by analyzing its main indicators and their geographical distribution. It sought to evaluate the extent of progress towards achieving national goals related to reproductive health programmes, and to provide a geographical database that helps decision-makers direct resources and interventions fairly and effectively.
The research relied on a descriptive-analytical methodology, based on quantitative and spatial secondary data, from health departments in Babylon Governorate (Babylon Health Directorate, its hospitals and primary health care centres) for service data, audits and vital statistics, as well as data from the Ministry of Planning, the Central Bureau of Statistics and Information Technology, the Poverty and Maternal Mortality Map Survey for the year 2013, and the Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority, the Iraq Household Social and Economic Survey (IHSES III) for the year 2024.
The research found a noticeable reproductive health gap between districts, as central urban areas (such as Hilla District) showed relatively better indicators in most services (family planning, prenatal care), while rural and remote districts (such as Hashimiya and Al-Mahweel Districts) recorded a decline in service coverage rates and an increase in some negative indicators (unassisted home).
