Abstract

  The impact of visual pollution on the urban appearance in Al-Shaab Municipality was studied because it lacks a unified architectural style. We also find that the buildings are inconsistent in terms of colors and packaging materials, random construction, the spread of waste, and overlapping land uses, in addition to the neglect of heritage and historical buildings and the lack of interest in them and their maintenance. This led to The loss of the historical identity of the people’s municipality, as well as the weakness of the responsible authorities, gave freedom to building owners not to pay attention to municipal controls and the buildings’ lack of coordination and harmony with  The surrounding environment and the lack of renewal are all factors that contributed to the distortion of the urban landscape and the lack of the aesthetic image of the city. The study aimed to address the main problem of visual pollution on the urban appearance in the People’s Municipality and try to find solutions and remedies and help decision-makers in reducing the spread of the phenomenon of this pollution.

The research concluded that the neighborhoods with the greatest increase in the phenomenon of visual pollution are the Kamira neighborhood, Al-Fahhama neighborhood, Saridat neighborhood, Al-Mahdi neighborhood, and the Basateen neighborhood, and this is due to the lack of awareness among citizens on the one hand, and the weakness and absence of government planning on the other hand, while the least neighborhoods were the Sumer neighborhood and the Al-Bayda neighborhood
