“The Reasons for Observing Al-Asl and Al-‘Iwad in Ibn Jinni’s Kitab al-Khasais and Their Impact on the Interpretation of the Qur’anic Text”

Abstract

      Arabic scholars have included in their books a range of grammatical opinions influenced by Ibn Jinni, as they were the most prominent in what he relied upon in their grammatical studies. It is not hidden from scholars that grammarians, both ancient and modern, have paid attention to causation and justification, as numerous books have come down to us that deal with causation. Ibn Jinni excelled in this area. This study addresses the two causal considerations of the origin and the substitute, which he adopted in studying linguistic phenomena and their manifestations in his book, Al-Khasais, while clarifying their impact on the interpretation of the Qur'anic text. They agreed with him on many of these points, and perhaps contented themselves with presenting his guidance on a single issue, while rejecting a portion of them if they contradicted their guidance
