Abstract

             Characters in a novel are the beating heart that brings life and meaning to the story. Each character brings with them a unique world reflected in their actions and words, making the novel a rich and complex experience. Through characters, the writer is able to explore multiple themes and diverse emotions, such as love, anger, betrayal, and hope.

Characters typically move within a specific narrative framework, but their roles are not merely tools to move the story forward; rather, they are bridges connecting the reader to the story. These characters interact with each other in ways that showcase human diversity, whether through conflict or cooperation.

The novel "Blue Moon" is a literary work written by the writer Wafaa Masri in 2025. It sheds light on the psychological and social conflicts of various characters within a complex framework of love, self-discovery, and the challenges facing humans under harsh circumstances. The importance of studying characters in literature is essential for understanding the depth of literary texts, as it allows us to identify the psychological and social tensions experienced by the characters. Due to its accurate portrayal of the characters' natures and interactions, the novel presents a rich model for understanding human relationships and the internal struggles experienced by the characters, who search for balance between the past and the future. Addressing these topics enhances the importance of psychological literature in understanding human life and the psychological effects of events and situations. This research examines the character patterns in the novel "Blue Moon" by the writer Wafaa Masri, a literary writer whose works are characterized by presenting complex characters and intertwined relationships that reveal psychological conflicts and emotional tensions. In "Blue Moon," Masri presents a unique vision of the development of the characters and their deep understanding of themselves. In this article, we adopt the descriptive analytical approach.  As a result, the author relies on digression to create fluid characters and complicate events, adding dramatic tension and encouraging the reader to follow the characters' development.
