This study examines Ibn Hisham al-Ansari’s (d. 761 AH) fourth gloss on Alfiyyat Ibn Malik, with a focus on the patterns and meanings of augmented verbs as presented by him.

The researcher classified the augmented verbs according to the number of additional letters attached to the triliteral root. He cited those augmented with one letter, such as (fa‘‘ala, fā‘ala, and af‘ala), explaining their various meanings. He also included those augmented with two letters, such as (ifta‘ala and tafā‘‘ala). Finally, he addressed those augmented with three letters, such as (istaf‘ala), clarifying the meanings associated with them.

Moreover, the study pays close attention to the opinions of grammarians and Qur’anic exegetes, presenting their views on the interpretation of the meanings of these verbs
