The research examines the establishment of the African Council of Churches and its role in South Sudan. This achievement came after two years of efforts to persuade the Sudanese government, headed by Colonel Jaafar Mohamed Nimeiry, and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), headed by Joseph Lagu, to sign the Addis Ababa Agreement in 1972.
Therefore, the research structure was built around three sections. The first section focused on the African Council of Churches' negotiations with the Sudanese government and the SPLM during 1970-1971 to reach a peace agreement. The second section highlighted the role of the African Council of Churches under the Addis Ababa Agreement of 1972.
