The Spread of the Tabataba Family in Iraq, Khorasan, and Yemen

Abstract

The Tabatabais are descendants of Ibrahim Tabataba, whom God Almighty blessed with a progeny and descendants. They are known for their noble character, fine qualities, and good reputation among the people. They are also known for supporting the oppressed. The history of Arab families that played a prominent role in political, religious, and cultural life is an important topic in Islamic historical studies. Among these families stands out the Tabataba family, whose lineage goes back to Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him). This family had an influential presence in various stages of Islamic history. This family was distinguished by its scholarly and religious standing, in addition to its political role, which played a role in its expansion and spread to include a number of Islamic countries, including Iraq, Khorasan, and Yemen.

Several factors contributed to the spread of the Tabataba family throughout the Islamic state, most notably political unrest, sectarian divisions, and sectarian loyalties. This was in addition to their social standing and deep connection to the Alawite dynasty, which granted them widespread acceptance among the popular and religious elites. Some members of the family established local emirates or assumed prestigious religious and scholarly positions.

This study seeks to trace the paths of the spread of the Tabataba family in Iraq, Khorasan, and Yemen, and to analyze the historical and social reasons for this geographical expansion.
