Abstract

Students, scholars and western philosophers talked about many literary theories and they raised controversy among them because of the differences of their approaches, cultures and studies. However, their essence, content and form gave huge benefit, depth and diversity in dealing with different literary texts. Among these theories are structural, deconstructions, symbolic, expressive and semiotic theories.

Besides, the researcher has chosen semiotics, including the semiotics of topic, and its application to Ramad wa Shadhaya (Ash and Fragment) collection of poems by Iraqi poem Nazik AL-Mala'kah. The paper is of three parts preceded by an introduction highlighted the importance of the topic in the literary text, they are as follows: the first part is dedicated to structure of the topic while the second one is about the significance of the topic whereas; the third part is concerned with the function of the topic. It is mentioned that a lot of applications derived from these parts cited above. The researcher tried to cover most of the topics on the applied and interpretative levels. Finally, the paper came out conclusions written at the end.
