Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Mu‘allaqa (suspended ode) of Zuhayr ibn Abi Sulma in light of the textual standards proposed by the textual linguists Robert de Beaugrande and Wolfgang Dressler. These standards are considered among the most significant modern tools for textual analysis. The research seeks to bring the classical Arabic poetic text closer to contemporary readers by analyzing its structure, aesthetics, and internal coherence, as well as its impact on the audience. The study highlights how this Mu‘allaqa achieves cohesion and coherence, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of the text and its literary and cultural context. Furthermore, the study explores how Zuhayr ibn Abi Sulma engaged with the social and political conditions of his time through refined poetic language that reflects his philosophical awareness and exceptional rhetorical skill.
