Abstract

This research aims to study the vocative particles as discussed by Imam Abu Ali al-Bukhari in his book "Issues of Jurisprudence That Relate to Arabic", by exploring the connection between language and jurisprudence, and tracing the meanings and grammatical as well as jurisprudential uses of these particles.

Vocative particles are defined as letters used to call attention or summon someone, the most common of which is yā (يا). These particles serve various functions, including alerting or actual calling, and they constitute an essential part of impactful linguistic structures. This study examines five primary vocative particles: yā (يا), hamzah (ء), ayā (أيا), hayā (هيا), and ayy (أيْ), presenting their usage in the Arabic language and the Qur’an, the views of grammarians regarding them, and the positions of jurists on the impact these particles have on jurisprudential issues.
