The chemical industry is one of the oldest industries established in Iraq and is distributed across various governorates. The chemical industry consists of a number of industries, each with its own set of industrial activities. The industrial activities of the chemical industry in Iraq, numbering (16), were studied. It was necessary to determine the efficiency of these industries in terms of relative importance, economic efficiency, social efficiency, and production efficiency (economic activity efficiency), leading to a study of overall efficiency. It was found that oil refining and other paper products were among the most prominent activities that ranked first according to the studied criteria, while synthetic fibers and threads, tires, and rubber tubes ranked last according to all the sectoral efficiency criteria studied. The study recommended the need to develop the chemical industries established in Iraq and focus on activities where there are only one or two industrial facilities in Iraq, with the aim of developing this very important industry.
Keywords: sectoral efficiency, chemical industries.
