The study aims to provide a detailed picture of the economic feasibility of the location of the General Company for Glass and Ceramic Industries in the study area. It assesses the current location of the glass and ceramic factory in Ramadi and its economic viability using a contemporary applied approach that employs Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The study utilizes various GIS functions for spatial analysis and planning criteria, and it identifies suitable solutions to achieve this feasibility
The study found that the area under investigation contains large quantities of raw materials essential for this industry. Establishing this factory in the study area is considered a turning point for the industry. The glass sand, a primary raw material, is found in the Ardhuma area west of Rutba, with a purity of 99%. Approximately 734 kg of this raw material is required to produce one ton of glass. Additionally, kaolin clay, used in ceramic production, is found in the Duwikhla area (south of the Karrah depression) northeast of Rutba, playing a significant role in supporting the industry.
Field studies revealed that the workforce is underpaid compared to the education, health, and electricity sectors, and they are also deprived of incentives. The field study also indicated that the management of the glass and ceramic factory is focused solely on personal interests, exemplifying poor management and administrative corruption. One of the main conclusions is that there is no economic feasibility for the factory to remain at its current location as long as there is no genuine support to revive and develop such an industry.
