Abstract

The ontological metaphors of the symbol "the river, the fish" are one of the prominent metaphors, representing a symbolic phenomenon in the contemporary Iraqi poetry of Rad Zamil in unveiling a side of the mysterious truth that affected the reality of his society, through resorting to the creation of conceptual metaphors, I considered an intellectual mechanism, related to the human mental experience, and the way it perceives the world around it, in building knowledge and concepts that represent a mental process cognitive, in which abstract concepts abound, it is impossible to think about them without resorting to the use of material concepts. The structure of the research was occupied in answering the basic question of the types of ontological metaphors in his poetic structure, and it was the focus of revealing his vision of the world around him in how he uses metaphor as an artistic construction tool that has its role in conveying what the poet hides in the reservoirs of his poetic experience to the recipient, so poetry became a means of perceiving the world in the folds of books. The research focused on the diagnostic metaphors of the symbol of the "river and the fish" in drawing allegorical images in various forms in his poetic books to identify the symbolism of the" river and the fish " in the construction of the mental metaphors that make up it, the conditions of the writer embodied in a statement his conceptual format by drawing his real experience in the light of the cognitive linguistic trend in the light of selected models of his poetry according to the theory of George Lykov and Mark Johnson. The significance of "river, fish" in Zamil's experience is monitored to reveal the metaphorical beauty and semantic richness and the extent of the poet's openness to nature, which Zamil insisted on giving positive and negative connotations, so the river and the fish became one of the basic concepts that he touched on in his poetic collections to identify the status of the river and the fish in the light of the mental metaphors that make up the format of his poetic experience, we will clarify through the research trip.
