Geographical analysis of the results of the Iraqi provincial council elections for the year 2013

Abstract

The research aims to determine the centers of voting support for the winning coalitions and parties participating in the elections by calculating the seats obtained by those lists in each of the Iraqi governorates.

The research reached a number of results, the most important of which is that the elections resulted in the victory of a large number of coalitions and political parties, the most prominent of which is the State of Law coalition, which obtained (109) seats. The governorates (Baghdad, Diyala, Basra, Dhi Qar, and Muthanna) represented strong centers of support. The Citizen Bloc obtained (60) seats, and the governorates (Muthanna and Wasit) represented strong centers of support, while the Ahrar Movement obtained (44) seats, and (Maysan) Governorate represented the strong center of support, while the United Coalition obtained (29) seats. The provinces of (Nineveh and Anbar) represented strong centers of support, while the National Iraqi Arab Coalition obtained (24) seats, and (Diyala) Province represented a strong center of support for the coalition. Finally, the United National Iraqi Coalition obtained (16) seats and represented the provinces of (Salah). Al-Din, Anbar) strong support center.
