The research examines the ethical values in the eulogistic poems of the poet Ibn Sowar Al-Ashbuoni, one of the Andalusian poets of the past, whose works have not been extensively studied by modern and classical scholars. There is a lack of detailed information about him, and his poems remained scattered in various sources until they were collected by Dr. Mahmoud Shakir Al-Sajit (may he rest in peace). He made a distinguished effort to compile them and published them as a collection in 2018, making it a valuable reference that enriches the
Andalusian literary library.
After reviewing what Ibn Sowar revealed, I noticed the dominance of ethical values in his speeches. He did not deny the merit of those who had a role in alleviating his distress, reflecting the noble Arab tradition deeply rooted in history. Ibn Sowar's poems encompassed ethical values such as glory and elevation, generosity and benevolence,
courage, tolerance and forgiveness, justice, and wisdom.
